In the fall of 2017, a dispute that began over a young boy's text messages to a girl tragically escalated, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Carlos Daniel Pascual Richiez in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Pascual Richiez, a Hispanic male who was born in the Dominican Republic, died on October 10, 2017.
The events that led to the fatal encounter began when a 25-year-old man took the boy's cellphone. Later, when the man went to return the device, a heated argument broke out.
During this confrontation, one person was struck with a pistol. Following this altercation, the 25-year-old man got into an SUV. Pascual Richiez, in a separate vehicle, pursued the SUV in an attempt to get its license plate number.
The chase ended in a collision when Pascual Richiez's vehicle rear-ended the SUV. At that point, the driver of the SUV got out and shot Pascual Richiez in the head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries a short time later.
In the days following the shooting, authorities announced that a 25-year-old man had been charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of Carlos Pascual Richiez. The investigation revealed that the tragic and violent end to this dispute could have possibly been averted if law enforcement had been contacted earlier in the conflict.
