In what was described as an absolute tragedy by the Springettsbury Township Police Chief, 50-year-old Brian Wilk was found deceased in his home on the 900 block of South Russell Street. The discovery was made on July 27, 2015, after police were called to the residence for a welfare check when Brian Wilk did not report for work.
Upon entering the home, officers found the bodies of Brian Wilk and his wife, 61-year-old Donna Wilk.
The subsequent investigation by the Springettsbury Township Police and the York County Coroner's Office revealed a grim sequence of events. It was determined that Brian Wilk had shot his wife in the chest before turning the gun on himself, succumbing to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The coroner's office officially ruled Donna Wilk's death a homicide and Brian Wilk's death a suicide. As Brian Wilk was identified as the sole perpetrator in the death of his wife, the investigation was concluded as a murder-suicide. Consequently, no arrests were made, and no other suspects were sought in connection with the incident. Authorities were unable to determine the precise time of the shootings and noted that the motive behind the tragic event may never be fully known. This incident was noted as one of several murder-suicides that occurred in York County that year, prompting public concern regarding domestic violence and mental health.
