In the early morning hours of May 1, 2010, the life of 30-year-old Donald Lamar Robinson, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence outside a Coney Island restaurant on Livernois Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. The incident unfolded at approximately 3:30 a.m. as Robinson was getting out of a friend's vehicle. He was suddenly confronted by an unknown Black male who was armed with a handgun.
The assailant's intentions appeared to be robbery as he ordered Robinson
to get on the ground and empty his pockets. In a desperate attempt to save his own life, Robinson made a split-second decision to flee. He got up and began to run, but his escape was brutally halted. The gunman opened fire, striking Robinson multiple times. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The Detroit Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Robinson's death. The suspect was described only as a Black male, and despite the efforts of law enforcement, he was never identified. The case grew cold, leaving Robinson's family and friends without answers or justice. Authorities and organizations like Crime Stoppers issued public appeals for information, offering a cash reward for any tips that could lead to an arrest. However, to this day, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Donald Lamar Robinson, and his killer remains at large.
