In the light of a Detroit day on October 2, 2016, Reuben Rambus, a 23-year-old African-American man, was fatally shot while inside his car. The brazen daylight killing highlighted the persistent issue of gun violence in the city. In the aftermath, those who gathered to mourn him at a candlelight vigil were themselves met with gunfire, resulting in injuries and compounding the tragedy for a grieving community.
