Justin Andrew Luca, a 19-year-old male of Italian-American ethnicity from New Castle, Pennsylvania, tragically passed away unexpectedly on February 26, 2018. He was born on June 15, 1998, and was a lifelong resident of New Castle. Justin was a 2016 graduate of Neshannock High School and worked as a labor foreman at Trucoat Sealcoating in New Castle. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing baseball and basketball. Justin was also an avid fan of the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Justin's death was part of a double homicide case. On February 25, 2018, Justin and Cameron Martwinski, both 19, were shot and killed in an upstairs apartment on Franklin Avenue in New Castle. The incident occurred during a disagreement over a girl. Two teenagers, Caden Popovich and Donovin Miller, both 17 at the time, were charged with the homicides. Popovich faced additional charges, including possession of a firearm by a minor and carrying a firearm without a license.
The investigation revealed that Popovich and Miller used multiple firearms during the incident, and shell casings were found inside the home. Both suspects were arrested and charged as adults. The case was prosecuted by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and the defendants were held for trial.
Justin's family, including his parents, siblings, and grandparents, were devastated by his loss. Funeral services for Justin were held privately, and he was remembered as a loving son, brother, and grandson who enjoyed spending time with his family.
The tragic loss of Justin Luca and Cameron Martwinski left a lasting impact on their families and the community of New Castle. The pursuit of justice in this case involved collaboration between local law enforcement and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office.
