In the early morning hours of Friday, March 16, 2018, a night out with family and his girlfriend ended in tragedy for 31-year-old Juan Green of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. The male victim was outside Becker's Cafe on Olivia Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. when an argument broke out between two people in his group. A second group of three men, who had also been inside the bar, walked by and made a comment.

Green took offense to the remark, leading to a physical altercation between him and one of the men from the other group. The confrontation quickly escalated when the man he was fighting, later identified as 33-year-old Tyree Davis of Sheraden, pulled out a handgun and shot Green in the chest. After being shot, Green stumbled into the street and collapsed. Davis and the two men he was with fled the scene in a white sedan.

Paramedics arrived and transported Green to Allegheny General Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at 2:22 a.m. An investigation was immediately launched by Allegheny County Police. A witness who had been with Green provided descriptions of the three men, including the shooter, who was described as having a 'small fro' hairstyle and wearing a red jacket with white on the sleeves. The witness also mentioned that one of the other men was known by the nickname 'Trigger Trey.'

This piece of information proved crucial in the swift apprehension of the suspect. An off-duty Pittsburgh police detective working a detail at the hospital where Green was taken overheard the nickname. He recognized it from previous narcotics investigations and was able to identify 'Trigger Trey' and his associates, including Tyree Davis. By that afternoon, a SWAT team was dispatched to a home on Glasgow Street in Sheraden, where Davis was taken into custody. Davis was subsequently charged with homicide and a firearms violation and was lodged in the Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 23.
