In the late hours of a Saturday night in April 2020, a sudden burst of violence shattered the peace on a street in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. Twenty-four-year-old Kwame Washington, a male from Pittsburgh, was fatally shot while sitting in a parked vehicle on the 300 block of Shingiss Street. The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 p.m. on April 25th.
Washington was in the front passenger seat of a Chevrolet Equinox with a female companion when an unidentified man approached the vehicle. Without warning, the unknown assailant opened fire into the car, striking Washington multiple times in the torso. McKees Rocks Police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene, where they found the gravely wounded young man. Despite their efforts, Washington was pronounced dead at the scene.
Allegheny County homicide detectives took over the investigation, working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
