On January 29, 2021, Christopher Roy Butler, a 22-year-old male from West Mifflin, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident outside Club Erotica in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the club, where a fight broke out between two groups of people. During the altercation, multiple individuals pulled out guns and began firing, resulting in the deaths of Butler and another man, Seth Andrew McDermit, 31, of Monongahela. Three other individuals were injured in the shooting but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the incident, police arrested two individuals in connection with the shooting: Charles Becher, 24, and Khalil Walls, 25. Becher, a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard, claimed he acted in self-defense after being attacked by the group, while Walls was charged with the shooting death of Butler. Both Becher and Walls were charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault. Becher faced additional charges for the death of McDermit and was found guilty of third-degree murder.

The case drew significant attention due to the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the self-defense claim made by Becher. The prosecution argued that Becher had a duty to retreat and sought a conviction of first-degree murder. Becher's trial included testimony about the chaotic scene and the physical altercation that led to the shooting. Ultimately, Becher was sentenced to 12-24 years in prison for his involvement in the incident.

The tragic death of Christopher Roy Butler and the subsequent legal proceedings highlighted the complexities of self-defense claims and the impact of violent altercations on individuals and their families. The case remains a poignant reminder of the consequences of gun violence and the importance of conflict resolution.
