Anthony Torres, a 23-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on August 22, 2018, in Philadelphia, PA. He was found lying on the sidewalk on H Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Torres was pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim, 38-year-old Jose Vega, was also shot but was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The incident occurred when a gold or tan van pulled up to the
intersection, and two suspects exited the vehicle. One suspect, described as a light-skinned, heavyset male wearing a black Adidas hooded sweatshirt, was armed with an AR-15 type weapon. The second suspect, a light-skinned, thin male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants, carried a handgun. Both suspects fired multiple rounds at Torres and Vega, even after they had fallen to the ground.
Philadelphia Police launched an investigation into the double homicide. Surveillance footage and witness statements were collected to identify the suspects. On March 15, 2023, a suspect was arrested and charged with murder and related offenses in connection with Torres's death. The case is currently pending trial.
