The incident occurred in a ravine in Avalon, where Boneza was shot multiple times. The fatal shooting was the result of a dispute over beer. Boneza had gone to buy beer and returned with the wrong type, which led to an altercation. During the altercation, Boneza handed a semi-automatic pistol to Musa Ramadhan Muya, who then shot Boneza four times.
