On a September evening in 2014, 21-year-old Jarome Leroy Coker, an African American male known to his friends and family as 'Fat Money' or 'Fat$', returned to his home on Thon Drive in Penn Hills, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As he was getting out of his car and walking toward his house around 8:30 p.m., the quiet of the neighborhood was shattered by a barrage of gunfire. Neighbors reported hearing as many as fourteen or fifteen shots in rapid succession.
When the sound faded, Jarome lay fatally wounded outside his home, the victim of what police believe was a carefully planned ambush.
Investigators found multiple shell casings at the scene and believed the shooter may have used an assault-style rifle.
