In the early hours of an autumn morning in Philadelphia, 20-year-old Andrea Myers was fatally shot while sitting in a parked car in the Olney neighborhood on October 9, 2018. The incident was not a random act of violence but the tragic outcome of a misguided revenge plot. Myers, a white female, was not the intended target of the shooting.
The events leading to her death began with a belief held by Lekita McDuffie that Myers' boyfriend was responsible for a prior murder. Seeking vengeance, McDuffie enlisted the help of her cousins, Tyrone and Dolores McDuffie, to carry out an attack. In a back alley on the 5200 block of Westford Road, the trio fired nearly two dozen shots into the vehicle where Myers was seated. Two of these bullets struck her, one in the chest and another in her left arm. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
Investigators utilized surveillance footage, cellphone data, and social media evidence, including threatening messages from Lekita McDuffie's Instagram account, to piece together the case. This evidence was instrumental in identifying the three assailants.
Ultimately, Lekita McDuffie, Tyrone McDuffie, and Dolores McDuffie all pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and other related offenses in connection with the death of Andrea Myers. They are currently awaiting sentencing for their roles in the fatal shooting.
