On a Halloween night in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the life of 28-year-old Darese Coleman was tragically cut short. On October 31, 2018, Coleman was found lying face down in the middle of Beatrice Avenue, in the vicinity of Oakhurst Homes. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:21 p.m. The Black male's death was ruled a homicide by the Cambria County Coroner's Office.
In the wake of the shooting, the Johnstown Police Department launched an investigation into Coleman's death. Authorities explored potential connections to another shooting that had occurred in the same area just a day prior, though it remains unclear if the two incidents were related. Despite their efforts, the investigation has not yet led to any arrests, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case officially remains an unsolved homicide, one of over 30 such cases in Cambria County stretching back several decades.
Darese Eugene Coleman was a father to two daughters, Avalise and Emeeliah. His obituary paints a picture of a man with a large and close-knit family, including his grandmother who raised him, sisters, a brother, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family and friends mourned their loss at his Homegoing Service at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, with his final resting place at Richland Cemetery. The community continues to await answers and justice in his unsolved murder.
