On the cold evening of February 4, 2019, tragedy befell 46-year-old Tyrone M. Shaw, a man from Roselle Park, New Jersey. His journey came to an abrupt and violent end on the northbound side of Interstate 81 in West Hanover Township, a short distance from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Shaw's black 2004 GMC Yukon had become disabled, seemingly due to a flat tire, at mile marker 75.4.
It was as he stood outside his stranded vehicle that his life was taken.
Sometime between 7:10 and 7:30 p.m., in the dimming light of the evening, Tyrone Shaw was shot once in the head. Investigators believe he was killed within moments of his vehicle breaking down. Witnesses later reported seeing another vehicle stopped behind Shaw's SUV around the time of the incident. Hours later, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a state trooper discovered Shaw's body, positioned between his vehicle and a guardrail. His SUV had been sitting on the shoulder of the interstate for about four and a half hours before he was found.
The investigation into the death of Tyrone M. Shaw has been a priority for the Pennsylvania State Police. Detectives have determined that his death was not a random act of violence or the result of road rage, but rather that he was specifically targeted. In the hours leading up to his murder, Shaw had been visiting at least one residence in the Allison Hill section of Harrisburg. Authorities have been working in conjunction with the New Jersey State Police and the Harrisburg Police Department to piece together the events of that fateful day.
Despite their efforts, the case remains unsolved, and the person or persons responsible for Tyrone Shaw's death have not been brought to justice. The incident appears to have been an isolated one, with no immediate danger to the public. A $5,000 reward has been offered for any information that leads to an arrest in the ongoing investigation. Police continue to seek leads, hoping to provide answers and closure for the family of Tyrone M. Shaw.
