Najir Imir Nathan Peterson, a 20-year-old African American male from Philadelphia, PA, tragically lost his life on March 10, 2019. He was found lying in some bushes in the 1800 block of West Grange Avenue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center, Najir did not survive.
Najir was known for his respectful and helpful nature. He had recently completed his 12th grade and obtained his forklift license.
He was also in the process of applying to commercial driver’s license school with the goal of becoming a truck driver like his brother. His proudest moment was graduating from Camelot Academy in 2017, overcoming numerous challenges including childhood seizures and bullying due to his learning differences and speech impairment.
The investigation into Najir's murder remains unsolved. Philadelphia Police Department has been urging anyone with information to come forward. The City of Philadelphia is offering up to $20,000 as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Najir’s murder. Anonymous tips can be submitted to the Citizens Crime Commission.
Najir's mother, Jeannine Shaw, has been vocal about her grief and the impact of her son's death on her family. She described Najir as a happy, lovable person who loved to protect others and hated to see people suffering. Tragically, Najir's grandmother, who he was caring for at the time of his death, passed away 10 days later, reportedly from a broken heart.
The case continues to be a priority for the Philadelphia Police Department, and they are actively seeking justice for Najir and his family. The community remains hopeful that someone will come forward with crucial information to help solve this heartbreaking case.
