On October 9, 2019, Luis A. Perez, a 25-year-old male from Lancaster, PA, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident. The incident occurred in the 600 block of South Lime Street, where surveillance footage captured a confrontation involving Perez and three individuals, including 14-year-old Rahmir Hopkins. During the altercation, Perez was seen falling into the street and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Rahmir Hopkins was charged with homicide and firearms offenses. Witnesses and surveillance footage indicated that after Perez fell, Hopkins and his companions kicked him, and when Perez attempted to get up, Hopkins pulled out a handgun and shot him in the back. Hopkins was subsequently ordered held for trial and remained in Lancaster County Prison without bail.
In January 2022, Hopkins was convicted of third-degree murder, possessing a firearm as a minor, and carrying a firearm without a license. He was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Luis Perez.
