In the winter of 2019, the life of 19-year-old Quameer Knight was tragically cut short in the West Oak Lane neighborhood of Philadelphia. On the late evening of December 17th, Knight was seated in the passenger side of a car on the 6700 block of North Broad Street when the sound of gunfire erupted. A stray bullet pierced the vehicle and struck him in the head.
He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the incident.
Knight, a senior and a starting defensive end for the George Washington High School football team, was remembered by family and friends as a beloved and community-oriented young man. He was just a couple of months away from his high school graduation. Reports indicated that at least twelve shots were fired in the incident and that Knight was not the intended target of the violence that claimed his life. The senseless act left his family and the local community enveloped in grief and searching for answers.
In the wake of the shooting, Philadelphia police began an investigation, seeking surveillance footage and any information that could lead to the individuals responsible for the gunfire.
