In the late morning of June 26, 2020, Christopher Langham, a 48-year-old Caucasian male, was found shot to death in the parking lot of the Pittsburgh Motel in Robinson Township, Pennsylvania. The events that led to his tragic death began when he arrived at the motel to meet an individual. Unbeknownst to Langham, another man, 25-year-old Jaquay Murray, was hiding in the bathroom of the motel room.
As Langham entered the room, Murray emerged from the bathroom and, without warning, opened fire as Langham attempted to flee. Witnesses reported hearing as many as four gunshots. Langham collapsed in the parking lot, having been shot at least four times. Murray fled the scene but was apprehended by police a short distance away at a Speedway gas station.
Following his arrest, Jaquay Murray was charged with criminal homicide and firearm violations. The investigation into the shooting revealed a chaotic scene within the motel room, with shell casings found inside. In February 2022, Murray pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and two firearms violations as part of a plea agreement with the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office.
As a result of his guilty plea, the charge of tampering was withdrawn, and Murray was sentenced to 18 to 42 years in prison. During the court proceedings, emotional victim-impact statements were delivered by Christopher Langham's sister, daughter, mother, and stepfather, who all spoke of the profound grief and devastation his murder had brought to their family.
