Kaii Nishaun McCargo, a 19-year-old male of African American ethnicity from Uniontown, PA, tragically lost his life on September 4, 2020. He was sitting in a parked car with friends outside a home on Evans Street when another vehicle drove by and opened fire, striking him in vital parts of his body. McCargo was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was described as a drive-by shooting, and no other individuals in the car were injured.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Uniontown police launched an investigation. Despite receiving multiple videos and surveillance footage from the scene, the police struggled to gather concrete evidence. McCargo's friends, who were present during the shooting, were not particularly cooperative with the investigation. One of the friends even refused to speak to the police. The police received several names as potential suspects, but no arrests were made immediately.
In November 2023, three suspects—Malik Belt, Devyon Dennis, and Micah Allen Craig—were ordered to stand trial for the killing of Kaii McCargo. The suspects were charged with homicide, conspiracy, attempted homicide, and carrying a firearm without a license. However, in January 2025, a Fayette County judge dismissed all charges against the three suspects due to insufficient evidence. The judge ruled that the prosecution did not meet the burden of proof required to proceed to trial.
The McCargo family has been vocal about seeking justice for Kaii's death. They have expressed their grief and determination to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Despite the dismissal of charges, the family continues to hope for a resolution and justice for Kaii.
Kaii McCargo was remembered as a wonderful friend, a dedicated football player, and someone who always had a contagious smile. He had dreams of becoming a rapper and was known for his protective nature and his desire to live a better life. His family and friends continue to honor his memory and keep his spirit alive.
