On October 5, 2020, 21-year-old Daejour Smith, a Black male, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Lowe's store in South Philadelphia. He was an employee at Lowe's and was shot multiple times around 1 p.m. following an argument. Daejour was rushed to Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that afternoon.
The incident occurred in the 2100 block of South Christopher Columbus Boulevard.
According to police, the shooter approached Daejour in a stolen vehicle, exited the car, and began shooting. The motive behind the argument that led to the shooting remains unclear.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Daejour's murder. The investigation is ongoing, and the Philadelphia Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward. The City of Philadelphia is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
Daejour's mother, Deborah Smith, has been vocal about seeking justice for her son. She described Daejour as a young man with his whole life ahead of him and expressed the tremendous grief the family is experiencing.
