On the afternoon of February 8, 2021, a violent incident in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood claimed the life of Maurice D. Harper. Mr. Harper, a 42-year-old Black man, was one of two victims found shot to death inside a home on the 2900 block of Rosehill Street where they both lived.
Philadelphia Police officers responded to the residence at approximately 3:21 p.m. and made the discovery on the second floor. Mr.
Harper was located in a bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. A second victim, 61-year-old Thomas Burnett, was found in the hallway with gunshot wounds to his head and chest. Responding medics pronounced both Mr. Harper and Mr. Burnett dead at the scene.
The investigation into the double homicide moved quickly. Just one day after the men were found, on February 9, 2021, law enforcement officials took a suspect into custody in connection with the killings.
Following the arrest, the case has been classified as solved by police. The case is proceeding to litigation, and as of February 2021, the outcome was pending trial.
