Nathaniel Thomas Holt Jr., a 40-year-old African American police officer with the Philadelphia Police Department, tragically died on December 26, 1899. Officer Holt was off-duty at the time, enjoying the evening at Wolf's Saloon on Chestnut Street and 24th Street when he witnessed the ejection of three men causing a disturbance.
