Rolando Rivera, a 23-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from Lancaster, PA, tragically passed away on August 27, 2021. He was known affectionately as "Peanut" and was remembered by his family and friends as a friendly, caring, and sweet individual who loved playing video games, listening to music, and spending time at Blue Marsh Lake. Rolando was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and was deeply loved by his mother, siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
The cause of Rolando's death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso. He was found lying in the street on the 500 block of Third Street in Lancaster, PA, after being shot by Elijahuwon Ashmeir Brown, a 15-year-old at the time of the incident. Surveillance footage showed Brown following Rivera before raising a firearm and shooting him multiple times. Brown was later arrested and charged with criminal homicide, possession of a firearm by a minor, and other related charges.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Brown was prosecuted as an adult and faced life in prison. He eventually pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to a minimum of 32.5 years and up to life in prison. The case drew significant attention due to the age of the perpetrator and the tragic loss of a young life.
