On September 6, 2021, 19-year-old Jordan Murray was fatally shot on the 2200 block of West Huntingdon Street in North Philadelphia. The shooting was part of a string of violent acts attributed to a North Philadelphia street group known as 'BNG' or 'Big Naddy Gang'.
Investigators allege that Jamir Brunson-Gans, 18 at the time, and Elijah Soto, then 16, were responsible for Murray's death.
Prosecutors state that the violence carried out by BNG was in retaliation for the killing of a 15-year-old friend, known as 'Naddy,' in April 2021. The group reportedly sought notoriety and chronicled their violent activities on social media and in rap songs.
Following a lengthy investigation, both Brunson-Gans and Soto were arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, and other related crimes for their alleged involvement in the series of shootings that left two people dead and five others injured. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office announced the charges against four members of the BNG group in May 2023.
