He was fatally shot by Arshad Curry, a 22-year-old member of the street gang Young Bag Chasers . The incident occurred when Curry and an accomplice chased Sidney into his Port Richmond home and shot him in the chest. Sidney's 55-year-old father was also injured in the attack.
Arshad Curry was later arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including third-degree murder,
conspiracy, attempted murder, and assault of a law enforcement officer. Investigators used forensic evidence and data from Curry's phone to link him to the crime. Curry pleaded guilty to the murder of Sidney Sessoms and two other teenagers, Kailyn Johnson and Tommie Frazier, who were killed in a separate incident earlier that year.
In August 2024, Curry was sentenced to serve at least 42 and a half years in prison for his crimes.
