Erika Ramos King, a 39-year-old Hispanic/Latina woman, was shot and killed inside a home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on December 28, 2021.
That night, police were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. to the 1800 block of Boas Street for a report of a domestic dispute involving a firearm. Inside the residence, officers discovered that King had been shot multiple times.
According to the criminal complaint, a man had entered the home, opened fire, and then attempted to leave.
Officers detained the man, identified as 36-year-old Brian Keith McCullough Jr., as he was exiting the home. The complaint noted that King's teenage daughter had witnessed the fatal shooting. McCullough was arrested and charged with one count of criminal homicide.
In the days that followed the killing, friends, family, and neighbors gathered on Boas Street for a candlelight vigil and balloon release to honor King's memory and call attention to the issue of domestic violence. The case against McCullough proceeded to trial, and in late October 2024, a Dauphin County jury convicted him for the murder of Erika Ramos King.
