In the quiet of a Philadelphia evening on June 20, 2022, Maurice Whitehead, a 47-year-old Black male, was sitting on his porch on the 6100 block of Vine Street. The tranquility was shattered at approximately 11:28 p.m. when two masked men approached him. In what police have described as a targeted shooting, one of the men fired multiple shots, striking Whitehead in the chest and back.
Wounded, Whitehead managed to retreat into his home, collapsing on the bathroom floor where he was later
found by responding officers. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. The two assailants fled on foot and have not been identified.
