In the early morning hours of August 17, 2022, the life of 20-year-old Ziar Young was tragically cut short in his Williamsport, Pennsylvania, apartment. Responding to a call around 2 a.m., police discovered the young man had been shot and killed at the Victoria Gardens apartment complex located at 653 Hepburn Street. The Lycoming County coroner later confirmed that Young died at the scene from gunshot wounds to his upper body.
At the time of the shooting, Young was reportedly with his
girlfriend. Neighbors recalled hearing two loud bangs that sounded like a car crash. One neighbor recounted being told that someone had knocked on Young's door, and when it was opened, the gunman opened fire as Young was coming out of his bathroom. Those who knew him in the apartment complex described him as a 'sweetheart' who was always friendly.
In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement began an intensive search for the gunman, but no immediate arrests were made. Investigators have considered the possibility that the homicide was gang-related. This theory arose amidst an increase in violent crime in the area, which the Lycoming County District Attorney attributed to conflicts between competing gangs. As of late 2022, no arrests had been publicly announced in connection with the murder of Ziar Young, leaving his case unsolved.
