In the autumn of 2022, the community of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was shaken by the discovery of a young man's body. On the morning of October 20th, authorities were called to a wooded area behind the Hall Manor housing community, where they found 23-year-old Jordan Allen, a Black / African American male. It was immediately apparent that he had died from a gunshot wound, and the case was investigated as a homicide.
Further investigation revealed the grim details of his final moments; he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in what was described as an execution-style shooting, including a fatal shot to the back of his head.
The investigation into Jordan Allen's death led police to a significant clue: his van was discovered abandoned at the intersection of South 15th and Catherine Streets. Security camera footage from the area captured the moments after Allen's death, showing an individual driving the van to that location, parking it, and then getting into a waiting sedan before leaving the scene. This footage became a crucial piece of evidence for investigators as they worked to identify the person responsible for this violent act. For a time, the case remained unsolved, and police continued to appeal to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest.
A break in the case came in March 2024, when Harrisburg Police announced the arrest of 31-year-old Stafford Wedderburne. Already incarcerated on charges related to a separate homicide, Wedderburne was charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and robbery in connection with the death of Jordan Allen. The charges painted a dark picture of Allen's final hours, suggesting he was taken against his will before being killed. Wedderburne's arrest brought a sense of progress to the investigation, though the legal proceedings were just beginning. He was also facing charges for the death of another individual, Milton Washington, which occurred in January 2023.
