In the evening of November 22, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in Philadelphia's East Germantown neighborhood, tragically cutting short the life of 17-year-old Shahaad Amaje Brown, a Black male. The incident, which also left another teenager wounded, unfolded just before 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Blakemore and Woodlawn Streets.
Responding to the sound of multiple gunshots, police discovered a 16-year-old male at the scene with gunshot wounds to his face and arm. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. A short distance away, on the 5000 block of Blakemore Street, officers found Shahaad Brown. He had sustained a single gunshot wound to his rib area. Despite being rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center, his injuries proved fatal. It is believed that after being shot, Brown ran for a couple of blocks before collapsing.
Investigators at the scene recovered 28 spent shell casings, indicating the intensity of the shooting. Surveillance footage from the area reportedly captured two masked male suspects approaching on foot. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the case remains an unsolved homicide. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek information from the public to bring those responsible for Shahaad Amaje Brown's death to justice.
