In the late summer evening of Monday, September 4, 2016, a mother in the East Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia made a devastating discovery. In the basement of their home on the 8300 block of Williams Avenue, she found her 29-year-old son, Ernest Jones, who had been shot in the head.

Philadelphia Police officers responded to the residence at approximately 9:30 p.m. and found Ernest in the rear doorway of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed him to Albert Eins ...
