In the late summer evening of Monday, September 4, 2016, a mother in the East Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia made a devastating discovery. In the basement of their home on the 8300 block of Williams Avenue, she found her 29-year-old son, Ernest Jones, who had been shot in the head.
Philadelphia Police officers responded to the residence at approximately 9:30 p.m. and found Ernest in the rear doorway of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Paramedics rushed him to Albert Einstein Medical Center, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead that night. Investigators have not suspected his death to be a suicide.
Ernest Jones, a Black male, was a resident of the home where his life was tragically cut short. In the years since his death, detectives have been searching for evidence, a motive, and the person or people responsible for this violent act. As of now, the case remains an unsolved murder, and the Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek information from the public to bring justice for Ernest and his family.
