In the early morning hours of November 28, 2022, a violent encounter outside a Lancaster restaurant tragically cut short the life of 29-year-old Luis Oscar Sanchez. The shooting occurred at approximately 1:11 a.m. in the 100 block of South Prince Street, outside the Prince of Subs restaurant. Sanchez, a father of two with another child on the way, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. A second individual, a security guard at the establishment, was also wounded in the shooting but survived his injuries.
The investigation that followed the deadly shooting led authorities to identify two suspects: Jerbrell Westmoreland, 30, and Ziair Collymore, 22, both from Lancaster. In the weeks following the incident, detectives meticulously reviewed evidence, conducted witness interviews, and analyzed video footage from the area to piece together the events of that night. Their investigation culminated in the arrests of the two men. Collymore was taken into custody on February 23, 2023. Westmoreland was apprehended in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 6, 2023, by U.S. Marshals and was subsequently extradited back to Lancaster to face charges.
Both Westmoreland and Collymore are facing serious charges in connection with the death of Luis Sanchez and the injury of the security guard. The charges against them include criminal homicide, criminal attempted homicide, and criminal conspiracy. Collymore faces additional charges of recklessly endangering another person and carrying a firearm without a license. Following a preliminary hearing on May 24, 2023, a Magisterial District Judge determined there was sufficient evidence for both men to stand trial in the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas. Testimony during the hearing revealed that Sanchez had been shot three times. As the legal proceedings continue, both men are being held at Lancaster County Prison without bail.
