In the quiet town of Philadelphia, Mississippi, a story of tragedy unfolded in early January 2022, forever altering a local family. Judy Lynn Todd Posey, a 68-year-old White female known for her love of flea markets and her jovial personality, was found deceased in her home. Her passing on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, sent ripples of shock and sorrow through the community that knew her.

Authorities were called to Posey's residence to perform a welfare check, a routine call that would soon reveal a grim scene. Near the front door of her home, first responders discovered Posey, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The initial investigation into her death quickly uncovered a heartbreaking truth.

The primary suspect in the death of Judy Posey was her own son, 38-year-old Nick Posey. Investigators determined that Nick Posey had shot his mother before turning the gun on himself. He was found deceased inside the home from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

With the perpetrator deceased, the investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. No other individuals were sought in connection with the deaths, and the case was subsequently closed. The community was left to mourn the loss of a woman remembered for her vibrant spirit and her beloved Yorkie, Minnie. A graveside service was held on January 14, 2022, at Pine Grove Cemetery in the House Community, where friends and family gathered to say their final goodbyes.
