On January 28, 2015, authorities in Philadelphia, Mississippi, were alerted to a disturbance involving gunfire at the Sistrunk Trailer Park. Shortly after officers responded to the reports of shots fired, they received a secondary call regarding a traffic accident in the immediate vicinity. Upon arrival at the crash site, first responders discovered the driver unresponsive in the vehicle.
It was determined that the victim, Quarnitra Roshae Murray, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound which caused her to lose control of the car. Investigators concluded that the 29-year-old Black female had been shot during the incident at the trailer park and was attempting to drive away to safety when she succumbed to her injuries and wrecked.
The Philadelphia Police Department immediately treated the case as a homicide and began an investigation to identify the shooter. Evidence collected from the scene and witness accounts led detectives to a specific suspect who was believed to have fired the weapon. Two days following the shooting, on January 30, 2015, police arrested 22-year-old Javada H. Clemons in connection with the crime. He was taken into custody and formally charged with murder. Police Chief Grant Myers stated at the time that the shooting and the subsequent accident were directly linked, with the victim fleeing the initial confrontation when she died.
Following his initial arrest and charge for the death of Murray, Clemons faced a complex legal road. While the judicial process for the 2015 case was ongoing, he later became the subject of a multi-state manhunt in late 2016 connected to a separate homicide investigation in Meridian, Mississippi. After evading local authorities, Clemons was eventually located and apprehended by U.S. Marshals in San Antonio, Texas, in December 2016, where he was taken into custody to await extradition and trial for the multiple serious charges levied against him.
