Amiya Paige, an 18-year-old female from York, PA, tragically lost her life on December 31, 2022, due to a drive-by shooting. She was walking home when she was shot by her half-sister, Alajah Elizabeth Holmes, who was driving a UHaul at the time. Amiya succumbed to her injuries shortly after being taken to WellSpan York Hospital.
The investigation revealed that Alajah Holmes, who was 19 years old at the time of the incident, fired the fatal shot. Holmes turned herself into the police on January 6, 2023, and was later charged with first-degree murder. In August 2024, Holmes pleaded guilty to criminal homicide and was subsequently sentenced to life in prison on October 16, 2024.
The case drew significant attention from the York City Police Department and the York County District Attorney's Office, which worked diligently to ensure justice for Amiya. The community mourned the loss of Amiya, who was remembered as a loving, kind, and ambitious young woman who had dreams of becoming an ultrasound technician.
Amiya's family and friends have since been supported by a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her funeral expenses and other related costs. The tragic incident has left a lasting impact on those who knew her and the community at large.
