Patrolman Frank P. Ward, aged 34, was shot and killed on June 9, 1911, in Columbus, Ohio. He had joined the Columbus Division of Police just one month earlier, on May 8, 1911. Ward responded to a domestic disturbance call on Lehman Street, where a man was threatening his family with a shotgun. Upon arrival, the suspect opened fire, mortally wounding Ward.
Despite his injuries, Ward managed to return fire and fatally wound the suspect.
The suspect, identified as Charles Edward Glass, was responsible for Ward's death. Ward's service and ultimate sacrifice are honored by the Columbus Division of Police and the community. He was survived by his wife.
