James Earl Chapman, a 35-year-old African American man from Cleveland, OH, tragically lost his life on July 23, 1968. Chapman was killed during the infamous Glenville Riots, which erupted that evening and became the bloodiest day in the history of the Cleveland Police Department. The riots began when a group of Black Nationalists, armed with rifles and shotguns, engaged in a violent confrontation with the police.
