Patrolman Herman Bernard Pahler, aged 45, was a dedicated officer of the Cleveland Division of Police. On March 6, 1933, while directing traffic in front of St. Mary's Catholic School on West 38th Street, Patrolman Pahler was tragically shot by Herman Klink, who was on a shooting spree. Klink, armed with a .22 caliber high-powered rifle, had already shot a bank guard and was targeting pedestrians on the street.
