Tracey Lea Myers Stevens, a 25-year-old woman from Columbus, Ohio, tragically died on November 19, 1995. She was the daughter of Roger and Connie Myers and had graduated from Westerville South High School in 1988. Tracey attended Columbus State Community College and worked in customer service at Bank One. She was also a mother to an infant daughter, Amanda Grace, who also perished in the incident.
Tracey's death was part of a horrific shooting spree carried out by Jerry Hessler, a former co-worker at Bank One. Hessler, who was upset over being fired from the bank more than a year earlier, went on a rampage that resulted in the deaths of Tracey, her husband Brian Stevens, and their daughter Amanda Grace. The couple's 7-year-old son managed to hide and survive the attack. Hessler also wounded another former co-worker, Mark Campolito, and killed P. Thane Griffin in Worthington, Ohio.
Hessler was indicted on multiple counts of aggravated murder and other charges related to the shooting spree. He was held without bond at the Franklin County Corrections Center. The tragic events shook the community and highlighted the devastating impact of workplace harassment and unresolved grievances.
