In the summer of 2011, the life of 36-year-old La'Con Wilson was abruptly ended in a brazen daylight shooting on Detroit's west side. On the morning of Friday, August 5th, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Wilson was sitting in his blue Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan at a traffic light at the intersection of Hubbell and Schoolcraft. It was at this moment that a dark-colored Pontiac Grand Prix with tinted windows pulled up alongside him. A suspect emerged from the vehicle and opened fire, riddling Wilson's minivan with bullets.
The sudden violence of the attack left Wilson with multiple gunshot wounds, and he tragically died at the scene. Another individual, a 24-year-old man who was in the van with Wilson, sustained a gunshot wound to his arm but survived the assault. The shooter, having carried out the fatal attack, quickly fled the scene in the Grand Prix, disappearing into the city streets. The brazen nature of the murder, occurring on a busy street with potential witnesses, including neighbors and city workers, left the community in shock.
In the years following the shooting, the case has remained unsolved, and the killer of La'Con Wilson is still at large. Despite pleas from his grieving mother for anyone with information to come forward, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. Crime Stoppers of Michigan has offered a cash reward for any information that leads to an arrest, but as of now, justice for La'Con Wilson and his family remains elusive.
