Leonard Goins IV, a 27-year-old male of African American ethnicity, tragically lost his life on August 29, 2015, in Cleveland, Ohio. Goins and his companion, Darien Leadbetter, were walking to a gas station when they noticed a male on a bicycle following them. This individual, later identified as Steven Nelson, approached them and demanded their belongings at gunpoint. Goins, who held a concealed carry permit, drew his own weapon and exchanged fire with Nelson.
