On January 6, 2016, Aboubakary Diawara, a 15-year-old boy of West African descent, was tragically shot and killed in Columbus, Ohio. Diawara was found on the front porch of a house in the 2300 block of Laurelwood Drive, shortly after 7 p.m. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene at 7:26 p.m. The incident was reported to the Columbus Police Department, which responded to the scene and began an investigation.
Initial reports indicated that Diawara had been shot while running from the
shooter. The neighborhood where the shooting occurred is not typically known for such violent incidents, and residents were shocked by the event. Diawara's death was the fourth homicide in Columbus for the year 2016.
