Damion D. Wade, a 21-year-old African American male from Columbus, Ohio, tragically passed away on September 30, 2016. He was born on March 10, 1995, in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Columbus in 2009. Damion graduated from Pickerington North High School in 2013 and was known for his loving and caring nature. He was deeply missed by his family, including his mother Devie Lasley, father Nathaniel Wade, sisters Kerris and Anyla, and numerous other relatives and friends.
On the day of his
death, Damion was fatally shot at an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Fountainview Court on the Far East Side of Columbus. Witnesses reported that the shooter initially left the apartment but returned and fired additional shots into Damion's head and chest. The incident led to a manhunt, and police developed information that led SWAT officers to Knollwood Drive, where they encountered Jacquarius M. Robinson, a suspect in Damion's murder. Robinson was shot and killed by three Columbus police officers—Stephen Galiffo, James Sandford, and Anthony Rogers—after he raised a handgun and ignored commands to get on the ground.
A Franklin County grand jury later decided not to indict the officers involved in the shooting of Jacquarius Robinson. The case drew significant attention and raised questions about police use of force and the circumstances surrounding Damion's death.
Damion's funeral was held on October 8, 2016, at Marlan Gary Funeral Home, The Chapel of Peace East in Columbus. His family and friends gathered to remember him and offer their condolences. The tragic loss of Damion D. Wade left a lasting impact on his loved ones and the community.
