On June 9, 2002, David Slater Jr., a 22-year-old male, was tragically killed in Columbus, Ohio. The incident took place on East 16th Avenue near Pearl Alley, close to the Ohio State University campus. Slater, a student at the university, was shot while sitting in his friend's car. According to police reports, the shooter fired through the back windshield, striking Slater in the chest.
After being shot, the driver of the car attempted to rush Slater to the hospital but ended up flagging down a Columbus Fire Department vehicle on the way. Despite these efforts, Slater was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
