On June 1, 2023, at approximately 8:17 p.m., 20-year-old Scott Wayne Darthard Jr. was fatally shot near the intersection of Belvidere and Fairmont Avenues in Columbus, Ohio's Hilltop neighborhood. Responding officers found Darthard Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:23 p.m.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 19-year-old La’Chovin Wilson as a suspect in the shooting.
An arrest warrant was issued on July 6, 2023, charging Wilson with murder. On July 14, 2023, the U.S. Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), in collaboration with the Columbus Division of Police SWAT, apprehended Wilson at a residence on Peach Blossom Court in Columbus. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with murder in connection to Darthard Jr.'s death.
Born on December 28, 2002, Scott Wayne Darthard Jr. was remembered by family and friends for his vibrant personality and the joy he brought to those around him. Funeral services were held in his honor, providing an opportunity for loved ones to pay their respects and celebrate his life.
