James William Edward Wade, a 45-year-old Black man, was killed in Columbus on the morning of December 24, 2016, in a case that still reads like a scene frozen in the dark just before dawn. At about 6:52 a.m., Columbus police officers and medics were sent to the area of Brinwood Place and Noe Bixby Road on a report of a shooting.
