Doughty was believed to have fled the scene after shooting Higgins and was on the run for over a month before being arrested by SWAT officers on December 11, 2018. He was found at the home of Torri Martel Doughty, who was later charged with obstructing justice. The investigation revealed that Doughty had dumped Higgins' body next to the dumpster on Wrexham Avenue in west Columbus.
