Eighteen-year-old Darnell Brown-Jones was fatally shot in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio, on November 14, 2024. Authorities received reports of a shooting in the 900 block of Eton Grove around 10:30 PM. Upon arrival, they found Brown-Jones suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, with the time of death recorded at approximately 10:38 PM.
Following the incident, Columbus police launched an investigation to identify the suspects involved in the shooting. Initially, details regarding potential suspects or motives were scarce. However, as the investigation progressed, detectives utilized surveillance footage and witness statements to identify two individuals connected to the crime.
On November 19, police arrested Giavon Hayes, a 19-year-old male, who was charged with murder in relation to Brown-Jones's death. Shortly after, on November 22, authorities apprehended an additional suspect, Mi'Shawn Thomas, also 18 years old, who faces similar murder charges. Both suspects are now in custody as the investigation continues. Police have not disclosed which of the two suspects fired the fatal shot and are appealing to the public for any further information that could assist in their inquiries.
