On October 16, 2018, Jamareil Tamonte Caldwell, an 18-year-old Black male from Columbus, OH, was tragically killed in a shooting incident. At approximately 2:37 a.m., Columbus Police officers responded to a call about a male lying in the parking lot at the rear of 1551 Bryden Road. Upon arrival, they found Caldwell unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:45 a.m.
The investigation revealed that multiple gunshots were reported in the Fairwood Avenue area near Kent Street around 2:23 a.m. Caldwell and an acquaintance were in that area when he was fatally struck by gunfire. The acquaintance drove Caldwell back to the Bryden Road address and summoned the police.
As of now, the case remains unsolved, and no suspects have been identified. The Columbus Police Department, along with Crime Stoppers, is offering a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest and/or indictment of the person responsible for Caldwell's death. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with relevant information is encouraged to come forward.
The loss of Jamareil Tamonte Caldwell has left a significant impact on his family and the community, and efforts to bring justice to his case continue.
