Mulugeta Gemeraw Shiferaw, a 47-year-old man of Ethiopian ethnicity, was tragically shot and killed on November 21, 2018, in Columbus, OH. Shiferaw was found in the parking lot of V-Tech Auto Service on East Main Street, where he was believed to be employed. Witnesses reported seeing a man running from the scene, possibly in a silver Toyota Corolla.
Following the incident, Whitehall police launched an investigation and quickly identified Woldai Gebremedhin, a 57-year-old man who had a
long history of disagreements with Shiferaw, as a suspect. Investigators used security-camera footage and cellphone records to place Gebremedhin at the scene of the crime. Gebremedhin was arrested and charged with aggravated murder.
The motive behind the shooting was believed to stem from a recent dispute between the two men. The case highlighted the importance of community cooperation and media attention in solving crimes. Despite the tragic loss, the Whitehall community extended its sympathy to Shiferaw's family and friends.
